Welcome to
Camp Chaos

Nestled between the picturesque Green River and the magnificent Mt. Greylock State Reservation, at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain, lies Camp Chaos—a 30-acre expanse of hilly woodland that serves as a testament to nature's resilience. Here, the Central New England forest is steadily reclaiming the vestiges of historical disturbances: the remnants of a forgotten junkyard, the paths of old logging trails, and the moss-covered stumps of giant pines stand as markers of a past being gently erased by the persistent growth of the natural world.

Just across the road, within the Greylock Reservation, this regenerative process is even more pronounced. At first glance, it's challenging to differentiate between the moss-covered stone walls that once demarcated farmlands and pastures, and the natural rock formations that have stood there for millennia. The DCR Sugarloaf Trail, originating here, presents a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the revival of the Berkshires.

I take great pride in having donated a portion of Camp Chaos for the Sugarloaf Trail Parking, contributing to our small town's efforts to enhance public access to the Reservation. This website has been created to document this ongoing process, celebrating the relentless spirit of nature and the community's commitment to preserving and sharing the beauty of our surroundings.
